Buy German Christmas Candle Arches
One of the most well-known Erzgebirge wooden crafts is the candle arch. The Erzgebirge candle arch is a traditional Christmas decoration that shows figurines in scenes of everyday life, Christmas traditions like the nativity, carolers singing, religious scenes, angels, Santa Claus, or historical cityscapes. An arch of candles or light goes over the figurines, but most are now lit with electricity or batteries instead of real candles for safety reasons. Each piece of the German candle arch is made by hand in the Erzgebirge and would make a gorgeous addition to your home decor or Christmas decorations. Erzgebirge wooden ornaments also make a unique gift for the special people in your life. All our German Christmas candle arches come with a two-year warranty and will bring joy to the holiday season for years to come.
The candle arch has been part of the Erzgebirge Christmas as a festival of lights for more than 250 years. The first candle arch was made by blacksmith Johann Teller in Johanngeorgenstadt as a wrought-iron work in 1726. The form of the arch goes back to the Erzgebirge mining tradition. For their last shift before Christmas, miners hung their lamps around the outline of the mine entrance, so the lights formed an arch. The cloud motif that can be seen on many of our candle arches and the patented inside illumination are distinct features of products from our workshop.
